Buying a showjumper in Europe

The list above is deliberately short. We take on a small number of jumping horses at a time, because every horse here has been written up, photographed and described by us rather than copied from a seller’s advert. If a horse is on this page, we can tell you what it is like to ride, what its veterinary history says, and who it does not suit.

Our horses stand across Europe, currently in Estonia and Italy, and buyers come from across Europe and the United States. Viewings are arranged at the horse’s home yard, the pre-purchase exam is commissioned independently by the buyer, and transport is organised after the vetting rather than before.

What to look at in a listing

Height and age tell you less than the record. A horse placed consistently at a height is worth more than one with the scope but not the miles, and the gap between those two horses is where most of the price difference sits. Read the level honestly: a horse schooling 1.20 m at home is not the same as a horse jumping 1.20 m in a ring on a Sunday.

After that, look at temperament and rideability before pedigree. A famous sire line adds value, but it does not tell you whether you will enjoy the horse on a Tuesday evening in February. If you are not sure where your budget sits, our 2026 price guide by level sets out realistic European brackets, and the pre-purchase exam handbook explains how to read a vetting report without panicking.

Nothing here is the right horse? Tell us your level, your goals and your honest budget and we will look for it. And if you are on the other side of the deal, this is how we advertise and represent horses for sale on the owner’s behalf.
